The work reproduced a pure white room in the final scenes of Stanley Kubrick’s 1968 film “2001: A Space Odyssey” and made it go through the process of destruction. Within a large glass case are dust-covered chairs, a bed, cabinets, chipped marble pillars, oil painting, and other weathered items which appear to be from an old forgotten room. THE EUGENE Studioは日本のアーティストスタジオ。寒川裕人(Eugene Kangawa)は1989年生まれ。
過去にサーペンタイン・ギャラリー(ロンドン)「89+」(2014)、資生堂ギャラリー(東京)個展「THE EUGENE Studio 1/2 Century later.」(2017)、国立新美術館「漆黒能」(2019)、青森県立美術館「青森EARTH2019：いのち耕す場所」ほか、資生堂ギャラリー100周年記念展でのイギリスの建築家集団アッセンブルとの展示、アメリカ三大SF賞の小説家ケン・リュウとの共同執筆など。2017年に出版された『アート×テクノロジーの時代』(宮津大輔著、光文社新書)ではチームラボらとともに……
THE EUGENE Studio is a Japanese artist studio. Eugene Kangawa was born in 1989. While they are involved in two-dimensional works and installation works.
Their recent works include; “89+” at Serpentine Galleries(London), a solo exhibition “THE EUGENE Studio 1/2 Century later.” at Shiseido Gallery (Tokyo/2017), “Shikkoku-Noh” at The National Art Center, Tokyo(2019), “AGROTOPIA –WHEN LIFE BECOMES ART THROUGH LOCAL AGRICULTURE” at Aomori Museum of art (2019), collaboration with Sci-fi writer Ken Liu whose works have won all three major US science fiction awards, a special exhibition for the 100th anniversary of Shiseido Gallery with British architectural collective ASSEMBLE.
They receives invitations to R&D in fields such as biotechnology. This achievement was featured along with teamLab as one of the four main artists in Japan in the book “The Age of Art x Technology”(by Daisuke Miyatsu, Kobunsha) in 2017.
